Laem Sri Thanu is the rocky peninsula that lies between Ao Hin Kong and Ao Sri Thanu. It extends way out from the coast and the small beaches that populate its coastline are closer to the coral reef, leading to virtually year round swimming. It�s also a good spot for beach fishing.

Ban Sri Thanu is the market centre for the west and north-west coast of Koh Pha Ngan and has been ever since Laem Son, the local lake and beauty spot, was a tin mine at the turn of the century. Located at the west end of Ao Sri Thanu, the village is the area�s main fishing port, though it is only deep enough to handle smaller squid fishing boats and longtail boats thus it is still fairly tranquil.

In the village there are two main centres, by the port - where there are internet facilities, a couple of quayside snooker halls, and some cheap farang friendly restaurants with satellite TVs; and up at the main crossroads - where there are several Thai noodle stalls and street side restaurants that serve up very tasty local food at great prices. There is also a couple of Thai Karaoke bars and some fruit and vegetable market stalls.

On the northern end of the bay the beach is split by a river, and has to be reached by footbridge, the sand is plentiful and the beach wide. It is good to swim on the northern tip as there is a decent drop off and the reef is not too far away. Laem Son lake is behind the pine trees that shade the northern end of the beach, providing year round freshwater swimming and rope swings!

The tall shady pines that were planted to prevent the coastline eroding away run from the northern tip of Ao Sri Thanu to Laem Niad. After the storms of 1998 a lot of these have fallen on to the beach giving it a real deserted feel, you can walk round from Sri Thanu village on the beach, up through Bovy Resort, and then on the renowned Ao Chao Phao.
